The energy was electric at WINGS Independent Fashion Festival, where innovation took center stage. Held at the iconic Plaza Hotel in Sydney, this groundbreaking event kicked off with the debut of Phantom Resort, the latest collection by Alvi Chung for SPEED. Co-founded by Chung and Daniel Neeson, WINGS champions fashion that breaks rules and starts conversations - and this launch did just that.
A Visual Manifesto, A Hair Revolution
Chung’s Phantom Resort was a feast of emotion and storytelling - bold silhouettes, kinetic fabrics, and fearless expression. Amplifying this vision was Wella Professionals Creative Director and ghd Creative Artist, Renya Xydis, whose avant-garde hair direction perfectly echoed the collection’s themes.
“Working on the SPEED show with Alvi allows me and my creative direction to take on a whole new level of adventure,” Renya shared. “Layering Wella Professionals products and creating a couple of different looks, we could push the limits of hair and embrace movement and texture in more ways than one.” Renya’s backstage heroes? Wella Ultimate Repair Miracle Hair Rescue and EIMI Mistify Me Light Hairspray - essentials that helped craft structured yet organic looks that celebrated individuality and transformation.
Hair as Headpiece, Texture as Statement
Each model’s hair was tailored to their natural texture while elevating the aesthetic of the runway. Renya and her team didn’t stop at volume and movement - they created handmade hair headpieces from materials matching the garments, turning every hairstyle into an extension of the collection itself. The result? Hair that didn ’t just complement the clothing but conversed with it - sculptural, expressive, and original.
Completing the Look: OPI xPRESS/ON
To finish off the fearless style statement, OPI’s xPRESS/ON press-on nails brought the final touch.
“Working on a show that celebrates unfiltered creativity and self-expression, it felt only fitting to complete the looks with OPI’s xPRESS/ON”, said Michele Boulos, Senior Marketing Manager, Wella Care & OPI. A curated selection of shades and nail art designs were chosen in collaboration with SPEED to enhance the story of each look.
